Craving blood is something I have tried to write about many times in the past and may be one of the reasons my early vampire novels (something which I only wrote a few of in the past due to my fascination with the private investigator and mystery genera's) weren’t all that successful. The trouble was that I tried to write truthfully about something that is difficult to describe and which many human’s already had strong impressions of, impressions that didn’t want to change. Now I will try again, but in a way that doesn’t require my thoughts on the subject to be explained through a fiction character.
Most humans think that drinking blood is like drinking anything else and therefore our cravings for it can be compared with a humans craving for say soda or water. This isn’t the case, however. The craving for blood is more like a craving for sex, though unlike sex, one can’t really live without it (though White Face Taint aside, most vampires don’t need blood every night and can go days, weeks and sometimes months without acquiring any. Like sex, however, the longer one goes without the it, the bigger the craving to have it becomes and the more disappointing that moment will probably be once it arrives, which can drive a vampire to go on a feeding frenzy, their minds and bodies determined to satisfy the craving in a way that matches the fantasies that had built up about it during the dry moments.
The Cross
I hesitate to put this in the myth section because it is true, vampires, mostly the White Faces, but some other newer bloodlines as well, do fear the cross or crucifix, but the reasons for this are unknown and don’t really have anything to do with religion as far as I can tell, though I could be wrong. In the past my human companions have tried to explain my lack of fear for the cross due to my Hebrew origins and because I was born long before the Jew known as Jesus was crucified by the Romans (something which wasn’t really a bid deal outside of his home town at the time, but which everyone has heard about now thanks to the rise in Christianity). I’m not sure if I agree with my former human companions mostly because I have more scientifically oriented mind, but I won’t say that their theories are wrong, because I can’t prove it. I do know this, however, and that is that the cross was a valuable tool in defending myself against the White Faces in the 1930s and was one of the only reasons why I was able to escape Europe and flee to the United States (sadly most of my bloodline failed to make it with me, but that is a tale for another time). Simply put the cross does not affect me, but will seriously hurt the White Faces. The same is true of garlic and sunlight, though as I grow older and older I do seem to be more sensitive to the light as well (more on this in another page). I don’t know why this is the case, but it does make me wonder if there isn’t possibly a supernatural element to the vampire that I am unaware of, one which varies from bloodline to bloodline, which is one of the reasons I so strongly wish the ancient libraries and scholars were still around because there might have been information that would have furthered my knowledge on this topic, maybe in such a way as to help me defend myself in the coming war with the White Faces, a war I don’t think I, or humanity, will survive.
Lilith - Mother of all Vampire?
Being of Hebrew decent and being a vampire at that many would probably think that I bought into the whole Lilith being the first vampire theory and therefore the mother of all vampires, a theory which almost makes more sense when looking at werewolves rather than vampires since the theory of her vampire offspring states that they were part beasts, which then can jump into the theory that werewolves and vampires come from the same bloodline, one which split long ago (I believe this is in part the storyline of the Underworld movies, of which Nikki, my former human companion and lover, was fond of). As stated on another page I don’t really buy into all this. In fact, I don’t really buy into any supernatural theory of the creation of vampires (or humans at that) and think there is a more natural reason for our being here, though I won’t go so far as to say those that believe this are wrong and will accept that there may be truths to the supernatural theories, ones that could probably have natural scientific reasons if we only understood the world better.
That said, I do find the theories of Lilith interesting (both the vampire ones and simple creation ones, which I guess pretty much blend together in most telling's), and think she is a good source for fiction writers when trying to explain how and why vampires were created, something which many lesser known writers have been known to do, and which I may do in the future if I ever decide to write a vampire novel again (unlikely at this point, but then one never knows what the future will bring). Until then, enjoy what is already written.

Sunlight
Today it is commonly believed that sunlight will destroy a vampire and while this theory does have some truth to it since sunlight is very dangerous and damaging to the White Faces, it was never really a foe of the vampire until the White Face Taint emerged. That said, before the taint, most vampires did roam the night and therefore were considered creatures of the night, but that wasn’t because we feared sunlight (many Earthly creatures are night dwellers that aren’t harmed by sunlight), but because it was easier to go unnoticed by the masses, which was important to our survival.
The White Faces, however, do fear sunlight, which is why Hollywood and most fiction writers use it in their stories, but unlike those movies and stories, the White Faces don’t just burst into flame when touched by sunlight, or fall into a pile of ashes. Instead their skin is severely damaged and won’t repair itself, which, to me, once again proves that the vampire is some sort of natural creation on this planet (or maybe a result of something arriving from another planet - more on that later), one which goes through evolutionarily changes just like every other creature and which has natural vulnerabilities like other creatures, the White Faces being vulnerable to things like the sun and garlic and certain types of wood due to a sensitivity that the mutation in their bloodline has caused to develop within the vampire cells, something which could probably be seen and documented if anyone ever went so far as to do a study on the different vampire types.

The Taint
As I have stated, no one really knows where the taint in the bloodline came from and by the time anyone realized it was a problem it was too late. The trouble was that this bloodline taint was different than those of the past, ones which had destroyed themselves given how damaging they were to the vampire host, something which many felt would be the case with what has become known as the White Face taint, given that it limits the vampires movements to the darkest hours of the night and quickly destroys the more human areas of the brain, creating a madness that has never before been seen in vampires, one which is primarily responsible for the horrific image most humans now associate with vampires (this isn’t to say humans weren’t afraid of us in the past, we just weren’t as ruthless as the White Faces and limited our interaction with humans). The taint also seems to create a bloodlust within the vampire host, one that can’t be quenched, making vampire feedings noticeable and thereby painting a target on us (or them since I am rarely targeted by humans - more on that in my life story section).
As far as we can tell the taint came out of what is now modern day Romania during the fall of the Roman empire, though I’m sure there were cases before this. The biggest problem with the taint isn’t the madness or the bloodlust, but the ease with which it is spread from vampire to human. For a vampire like me creating a vampire from a human isn’t an easy process, but for the White Faces all it takes is a single bite, almost as if the taint is a virus that is spread through the blood. Not every human victim becomes a vampire, but enough of them do so the madness and bloodlust that develops in the older White Faces isn’t a problem because the population is always growing.

Vampire Origin Theories
Like I said, no one knows the true origin of the vampire, but that hasn’t stopped many from coming up with theories (both human and vampire ones). One of the most common theories seems to be rooted in the Biblical creation story, one which takes the multiple versions of this story (most Christians don’t realize there are more than one version) and combines them into one, the vampire segments sort of tossed in, segments that many feel were altered over time through misinterpreting what was written and then rewritten. Some even go so far as to claim that the story of Lilith isn’t complete and that she is the mother of all vampire, something which I don’t personally buy. Then again I have always doubted the creation stories, both vampire and human versions and feel that if anything created the vampire it was nature, especially given the taints that have come about in the bloodlines, taints that could be explained through the evolutionary process. My theory was never really favored amongst those that wanted a creation aspect to the vampire, because if we were created by chance through nature that that means we weren’t specifically designed to be better than humans, which is something many vampires have always liked to think, which also used to lead to debates on whether or not we should enslave the human population, something that is rumored to have happened once in the early days of both creatures, of which I will write about in the history section of this webpage.
Ultimately no one will ever truly know how vampires came about, though I’m sure in time we will have a better understanding of how they could have come about, especially if the question is ever put into the mainstream science world, which, I hate to say, is something that humans have always dominated when compared with vampires (we did have scholars at one point and some of the early vampires might have had a more scientific approach to things, but those days, sadly, are long passed). UPDATE: My human companion sometimes asks me why I’m upset with the modern world, but doesn’t understand that it is simply due to the destruction the White Faces have caused. This is a dark age for vampires.

Vampire Myths - Introduction
My Mother once told me that I was too curious for my own good. We were crossing the harsh deserts of present day Saudi Arabia at the time and I had had a close encounter with a dangerous creature, one that I had tried to capture with several other children who had been born during what many now call our Exodus from Egypt. Much has happened since then and when looking at my long life many might agree with my Mother about my curious nature. I, however, do not. I believe my curiosity has proven to be an assent rather than a fault and believe this to be proven given that I am the last surviving member of my family (both human and vampire). Yes, my curiosity has caused pain, but learning from that pain has been valuable, something which has made me the being I am today. Without it I would have never survived, which is why I allow my curiosity to run rampant, which in turn is why I have so much knowledge. Most of that knowledge is irrelevant to those viewing this blog, so I shall not burden you or myself with the telling of it. One of the areas I have been curious about, however, will be interesting to you, and that is the area of vampirism. Not everything I have learned is fact, but much of it I am certain of. There are things that I am not certain of as well, but which I shall put down here anyway. After all, history is full of people taking one man’s theory and expanding on it to create another, one which is ever greater than the first and proves much more useful to mankind.
So, with that said I shall start putting down the knowledge I have acquired about vampires (about myself I guess you could say), something which I have tried to do in the past as written works but haven’t been able to accomplish very well due to my inability to finish the projects – I have no trouble finishing projects of fiction, hence the royalty checks that come every other week from a dozen different book publishers – but which I think will be accomplished this time. Why? Because I don’t have to finish the project for others to see. A book needs a beginning, middle and end, all of which needs to be entertaining. A blog does not. I can write what I feel when I feel with no real guidelines and people will read it, and learn from it.
