I hesitate to put this in the myth section because it is true, vampires, mostly the White Faces, but some other newer bloodlines as well, do fear the cross or crucifix, but the reasons for this are unknown and don’t really have anything to do with religion as far as I can tell, though I could be wrong. In the past my human companions have tried to explain my lack of fear for the cross due to my Hebrew origins and because I was born long before the Jew known as Jesus was crucified by the Romans (something which wasn’t really a bid deal outside of his home town at the time, but which everyone has heard about now thanks to the rise in Christianity). I’m not sure if I agree with my former human companions mostly because I have more scientifically oriented mind, but I won’t say that their theories are wrong, because I can’t prove it. I do know this, however, and that is that the cross was a valuable tool in defending myself against the White Faces in the 1930s and was one of the only reasons why I was able to escape Europe and flee to the United States (sadly most of my bloodline failed to make it with me, but that is a tale for another time). Simply put the cross does not affect me, but will seriously hurt the White Faces. The same is true of garlic and sunlight, though as I grow older and older I do seem to be more sensitive to the light as well (more on this in another page). I don’t know why this is the case, but it does make me wonder if there isn’t possibly a supernatural element to the vampire that I am unaware of, one which varies from bloodline to bloodline, which is one of the reasons I so strongly wish the ancient libraries and scholars were still around because there might have been information that would have furthered my knowledge on this topic, maybe in such a way as to help me defend myself in the coming war with the White Faces, a war I don’t think I, or humanity, will survive.
