The trouble was that I tried to write truthfully about something that is difficult to describe and which many human’s already had strong impressions of, impressions that didn’t want to change. Now I will try again, but in a way that doesn’t require my thoughts on the subject to be explained through a fiction character.

Most humans think that drinking blood is like drinking anything else and therefore our cravings for it can be compared with a humans craving for say soda or water. This isn’t the case, however. The craving for blood is more like a craving for sex, though unlike sex, one can’t really live without it (though White Face Taint aside, most vampires don’t need blood every night and can go days, weeks and sometimes months without acquiring any. Like sex, however, the longer one goes without the it, the bigger the craving to have it becomes and the more disappointing that moment will probably be once it arrives, which can drive a vampire to go on a feeding frenzy, their minds and bodies determined to satisfy the craving in a way that matches the fantasies that had built up about it during the dry moments.

The Cross

I hesitate to put this in the myth section because it is true, vampires, mostly the White Faces, but some other newer bloodlines as well, do fear the cross or crucifix, but the reasons for this are unknown and don’t really have anything to do with religion as far as I can tell, though I could be wrong. In the past my human companions have tried to explain my lack of fear for the cross due to my Hebrew origins and because I was born long before the Jew known as Jesus was crucified by the Romans (something which wasn’t really a bid deal outside of his home town at the time, but which everyone has heard about now thanks to the rise in Christianity). I’m not sure if I agree with my former human companions mostly because I have more scientifically oriented mind, but I won’t say that their theories are wrong, because I can’t prove it. I do know this, however, and that is that the cross was a valuable tool in defending myself against the White Faces in the 1930s and was one of the only reasons why I was able to escape Europe and flee to the United States (sadly most of my bloodline failed to make it with me, but that is a tale for another time). Simply put the cross does not affect me, but will seriously hurt the White Faces. The same is true of garlic and sunlight, though as I grow older and older I do seem to be more sensitive to the light as well (more on this in another page). I don’t know why this is the case, but it does make me wonder if there isn’t possibly a supernatural element to the vampire that I am unaware of, one which varies from bloodline to bloodline, which is one of the reasons I so strongly wish the ancient libraries and scholars were still around because there might have been information that would have furthered my knowledge on this topic, maybe in such a way as to help me defend myself in the coming war with the White Faces, a war I don’t think I, or humanity, will survive.

Lilith - Mother of all Vampire?

Being of Hebrew decent and being a vampire at that many would probably think that I bought into the whole Lilith being the first vampire theory and therefore the mother of all vampires, a theory which almost makes more sense when looking at werewolves rather than vampires since the theory of her vampire offspring states that they were part beasts, which then can jump into the theory that werewolves and vampires come from the same bloodline, one which split long ago (I believe this is in part the storyline of the Underworld movies, of which Nikki, my former human companion and lover, was fond of). As stated on another page I don’t really buy into all this. In fact, I don’t really buy into any supernatural theory of the creation of vampires (or humans at that) and think there is a more natural reason for our being here, though I won’t go so far as to say those that believe this are wrong and will accept that there may be truths to the supernatural theories, ones that could probably have natural scientific reasons if we only understood the world better.

That said, I do find the theories of Lilith interesting (both the vampire ones and simple creation ones, which I guess pretty much blend together in most telling's), and think she is a good source for fiction writers when trying to explain how and why vampires were created, something which many lesser known writers have been known to do, and which I may do in the future if I ever decide to write a vampire novel again (unlikely at this point, but then one never knows what the future will bring). Until then, enjoy what is already written.

Sunlight

Today it is commonly believed that sunlight will destroy a vampire and while this theory does have some truth to it since sunlight is very dangerous and damaging to the White Faces, it was never really a foe of the vampire until the White Face Taint emerged. That said, before the taint, most vampires did roam the night and therefore were considered creatures of the night, but that wasn’t because we feared sunlight (many Earthly creatures are night dwellers that aren’t harmed by sunlight), but because it was easier to go unnoticed by the masses, which was important to our survival.

The White Faces, however, do fear sunlight, which is why Hollywood and most fiction writers use it in their stories, but unlike those movies and stories, the White Faces don’t just burst into flame when touched by sunlight, or fall into a pile of ashes. Instead their skin is severely damaged and won’t repair itself, which, to me, once again proves that the vampire is some sort of natural creation on this planet (or maybe a result of something arriving from another planet - more on that later), one which goes through evolutionarily changes just like every other creature and which has natural vulnerabilities like other creatures, the White Faces being vulnerable to things like the sun and garlic and certain types of wood due to a sensitivity that the mutation in their bloodline has caused to develop within the vampire cells, something which could probably be seen and documented if anyone ever went so far as to do a study on the different vampire types.

The Taint

As I have stated, no one really knows where the taint in the bloodline came from and by the time anyone realized it was a problem it was too late. The trouble was that this bloodline taint was different than those of the past, ones which had destroyed themselves given how damaging they were to the vampire host, something which many felt would be the case with what has become known as the White Face taint, given that it limits the vampires movements to the darkest hours of the night and quickly destroys the more human areas of the brain, creating a madness that has never before been seen in vampires, one which is primarily responsible for the horrific image most humans now associate with vampires (this isn’t to say humans weren’t afraid of us in the past, we just weren’t as ruthless as the White Faces and limited our interaction with humans). The taint also seems to create a bloodlust within the vampire host, one that can’t be quenched, making vampire feedings noticeable and thereby painting a target on us (or them since I am rarely targeted by humans - more on that in my life story section).

As far as we can tell the taint came out of what is now modern day Romania during the fall of the Roman empire, though I’m sure there were cases before this. The biggest problem with the taint isn’t the madness or the bloodlust, but the ease with which it is spread from vampire to human. For a vampire like me creating a vampire from a human isn’t an easy process, but for the White Faces all it takes is a single bite, almost as if the taint is a virus that is spread through the blood. Not every human victim becomes a vampire, but enough of them do so the madness and bloodlust that develops in the older White Faces isn’t a problem because the population is always growing.

Vampire Origin Theories

Like I said, no one knows the true origin of the vampire, but that hasn’t stopped many from coming up with theories (both human and vampire ones). One of the most common theories seems to be rooted in the Biblical creation story, one which takes the multiple versions of this story (most Christians don’t realize there are more than one version) and combines them into one, the vampire segments sort of tossed in, segments that many feel were altered over time through misinterpreting what was written and then rewritten. Some even go so far as to claim that the story of Lilith isn’t complete and that she is the mother of all vampire, something which I don’t personally buy. Then again I have always doubted the creation stories, both vampire and human versions and feel that if anything created the vampire it was nature, especially given the taints that have come about in the bloodlines, taints that could be explained through the evolutionary process. My theory was never really favored amongst those that wanted a creation aspect to the vampire, because if we were created by chance through nature that that means we weren’t specifically designed to be better than humans, which is something many vampires have always liked to think, which also used to lead to debates on whether or not we should enslave the human population, something that is rumored to have happened once in the early days of both creatures, of which I will write about in the history section of this webpage.

Ultimately no one will ever truly know how vampires came about, though I’m sure in time we will have a better understanding of how they could have come about, especially if the question is ever put into the mainstream science world, which, I hate to say, is something that humans have always dominated when compared with vampires (we did have scholars at one point and some of the early vampires might have had a more scientific approach to things, but those days, sadly, are long passed). UPDATE: My human companion sometimes asks me why I’m upset with the modern world, but doesn’t understand that it is simply due to the destruction the White Faces have caused. This is a dark age for vampires.

Vampire Myths - Introduction

My Mother once told me that I was too curious for my own good. We were crossing the harsh deserts of present day Saudi Arabia at the time and I had had a close encounter with a dangerous creature, one that I had tried to capture with several other children who had been born during what many now call our Exodus from Egypt. Much has happened since then and when looking at my long life many might agree with my Mother about my curious nature. I, however, do not. I believe my curiosity has proven to be an assent rather than a fault and believe this to be proven given that I am the last surviving member of my family (both human and vampire). Yes, my curiosity has caused pain, but learning from that pain has been valuable, something which has made me the being I am today. Without it I would have never survived, which is why I allow my curiosity to run rampant, which in turn is why I have so much knowledge. Most of that knowledge is irrelevant to those viewing this blog, so I shall not burden you or myself with the telling of it. One of the areas I have been curious about, however, will be interesting to you, and that is the area of vampirism. Not everything I have learned is fact, but much of it I am certain of. There are things that I am not certain of as well, but which I shall put down here anyway. After all, history is full of people taking one man’s theory and expanding on it to create another, one which is ever greater than the first and proves much more useful to mankind.

So, with that said I shall start putting down the knowledge I have acquired about vampires (about myself I guess you could say), something which I have tried to do in the past as written works but haven’t been able to accomplish very well due to my inability to finish the projects – I have no trouble finishing projects of fiction, hence the royalty checks that come every other week from a dozen different book publishers – but which I think will be accomplished this time. Why? Because I don’t have to finish the project for others to see. A book needs a beginning, middle and end, all of which needs to be entertaining. A blog does not. I can write what I feel when I feel with no real guidelines and people will read it, and learn from it.

Rebecca

Many think that when one becomes a vampire they lose all their human emotions, and while this might be true with the White Faces, or any other beastly creation, it isn’t true of me and to this day I still think about Rebecca, a sense of emptiness overwhelming me as I imagine her standing in the desert, looking into my eyes, a small knowing smile lifting her cheeks.

Rebecca was one of the reasons I decided to flee Moses and his tyrannical band of soldiers. The group had the power to do what they wished and it had only been a matter of time before they took Rebecca for themselves, something which I could not tolerate, and which would most likely see us both killed, her as she resisted, and I as I tried to kill every one of the bastards (I might have been young but like all of those born in the desert I had been groomed to be a soldier and could hold my own during a fight).

We left in the night, our group sneaking upon one of Moses’s sentries in the darkness and cutting his throat – I did not actually witness this since we moved in small groups so as not to attract attention, but did see his legs sticking out of a prickly bush as we left our encampment, Rebecca’s hand making me aware of his body as we moved by, her fingers squeezing mine with surprise, though not because she was upset by a dead body (between the fighting with other tribes and the natural effects of hunger, dehydration and exhaustion that came while living in the desert, we had all seen our fair share of dead bodies), but because she knew that the action of killing this man, even if it wasn’t by our own hands, meant that we would never be able to return. Little did we know that this would only be the first in series of deaths that would mark the end of our rebellious group - well, the end of its human element.

The White Faces

As stated in my introduction, the White Faces are a clan of vampire that originated from a taint within the bloodline shortly after the fall of the Roman Empire, something which I keep having flashbacks of given the conditions of this country and similar events that are taking place now. Actually, I’m not sure if the term ‘clan’ can be used to describe the White Faces now since they have grown much larger than any vampire clan previously, but since they do have a hierarchy amongst them, one which tries to govern over all of the White Faces (and all other vampire), I suppose the term clan can still be used. No one knows where this taint came from, and now, there really aren’t many left who would care (before the taint became so widespread and caused so much destruction there were actually scholars amongst the vampire clans, even secret libraries). All that really seems to matter now is the effect of the taint, one which is easily recognizable and which is responsible for most of the myths human’s have toward the vampire creature (more on this in my vampire myth section), and which is far too easy to spread.

Madness and bloodlust seem to be the two most common characteristics of the taint, as well as an odd whitish skin color that many now associate with the vampire given how easily this taint is spread (another factor that wasn’t realized until it was too late). Ruthless beyond comprehension, the White Faces have pretty much killed or destroyed every threat that has stood in their way, their actions usually governed by a family of leaders who, despite being White Faces themselves, seem to have been spared the worst of the madness, but not the bloodlust or the cravings for power which seems to be why so many within the family will kill each other just for a chance to rule.

My Vampire Beginning (I)

While I still have no idea where vampires originated, and may never know given the passage of time, I do know where I came from and have a feeling some many be interested in it, especially since it seems somewhat unique, even when considering all the real and fictional stories that are out there about vampires. My story begins in the deserts of present day Saudi Arabia / Jordan where I was born to a young woman who had been impregnated by a warrior during what is now called our Exodus from Egypt, something which I always find interesting since it wasn’t so much an Exodus from Egypt as a decision to leave Egypt, at least according to what I heard while growing up, which is something even the descendents of my people don’t want to believe, though the theory of this is finally being recognized by mainstream historians (we were not slaves but warriors of Egypt, ones who started being treated like second class citizens after a while, ones who were expected to do the work of lesser people, so we left, our leaders having us take what was ours from the cities, which angered the Egyptians who then came after us but were outwitted by Moses, who, like some modern day heroes, was just in the right time at the right place and presented with the right circumstances to become an important historical figure - more on that later). Anyway, I was born after all of this and grew up in the waste lands northwest of Mount. Sinai (a mountain that many falsely believe to have been a mountain of great importance to my people, but which is another mistake that is now starting to be recognized by scholars – I was young at the time and don’t know for sure which mountain the stories really talk about, and don’t really care) while searching for a home, my mind and body groomed to be a warrior due to how much fighting took place. Eventually, however, it was realized that our leader, the now revered Moses, was a tyrant, one who expected everyone to follow him without question, so, rather than questioning him, many of us left, our minds and bodies wanting to find our own land (promised land you may call it, though we didn’t), only to be preyed upon by a creature we had heard about but never witnessed before, one who came upon us in the night, feeding on most of us, but also turning some of us.

Welcome

I have spent so many years lying about who I was that I now find it strange writing truthfully about myself. I shall start with my name, which is Zukuah, and go from there. Actually, since I am being truthful now, Zukuah wasn’t my original name, but it is what I have been called since the day of my vampire birth and therefore is the name I choose to identify myself with, one which will be recognized by many in the vampire world, one which was thought destroyed years ago before the second World War, which, as you will learn as I write more and more, was a terrible time for my family (it was a terrible time for many, both human and vampire, but the terror my family faced hasn’t been chronicled in any history book that I know of) due to the madness of the White Faces, a clan of vampire that should have been destroyed many years ago when the taint in the bloodline was discovered, but like so many moments in history, wasn’t recognized until it was too late.

Of course I am now getting ahead of myself since this is just an introduction, but what can you expect from one who has spent most of his existence writing? In fact, many of you have probably seen some of my untruthful names on the bookshelves, especially the ones that became best selling authors, some of which I have already ‘killed’ off due to the impossibility of them writing for so many years. One of these names I actually stumbled upon in a history book one day, my eyes actually reading about myself without even realizing it at first, which was strange (more on that later).

Anyway, let me end this introduction before it gets too long. In time I may add to it, but for now I will leave it like this. For those that want to know more about me, have no fear, I plan on spending a lot of time on this blog, time that I once spent writing novels that I no longer care to pen. One day I may return to them, but for now, this will be my only writing endeavor, one that I shall make a main focus.
